Interpol

INTERPOL is the world’s largest international police organisation, with 195 member countries. One of INTERPOL’s primary functions is the publication of Red Notices. Red Notices are published by INTERPOL’s General Secretariat at the request of either a national central bureau designated by an INTERPOL member country or certain international entities with powers of investigation and prosecution in criminal matters. The purpose of a Red Notice is to seek the location of a wanted person and his or her detention, arrest, or restriction of movement for the purpose of extradition, surrender, or similar lawful action.

A Red Notice can have a serious impact on a person’s freedom and reputation. Our team has unrivalled experience in assisting clients who wish to pre-empt or challenge the publication of a Red Notice. Our founding partner is a former INTERPOL General Counsel and Director of Legal Affairs. Our combined experience includes the review of over 5,000 Red Notice requests and over 1,000 Red Notice challenges. In effectively challenging Red Notices, our lawyers draw on their in-depth knowledge of INTERPOL’s constitution, and frequently invoke arguments grounded in public international law.

In addition to pre-empting or challenging the publication of Red Notices, we advise clients seeking to terminate any other use of INTERPOL channels. We have made numerous successful applications to INTERPOL, including requests for access, requests for provisional measures and requests for deletion of other notices (such as Blue Notices).

As an international organisation and a subject of international law, INTERPOL commits acts which often trigger issues of international responsibility. Lindeborg has advised and acted for clients seeking to obtain compensation and other forms of redress from INTERPOL.

We have also advised and acted for States wishing to challenge INTERPOL. In fact, Lindeborg’s lawyers have been involved, in one capacity or another, in every challenge of this nature since 2004.

Our clients include States, former government officials, prominent business and political figures, and FTSE 100 companies. In addition, we have produced the leading textbook on INTERPOL, The Foundations of INTERPOL, and we feature regularly in the media for our work in this area.
